Question of the Day: Citizenship through Parents' Naturalization

I love talking with new people on the phone about their immigration issues.  Some calls become eventual clients, others just need a quick phone consult.  The questions always get my mind going, however.  It's a problem that needs solving.  Knowing what I know, how would I solve it?

Case in point:  Today I received a call regarding Citizenship through Parents' Naturalization.  If your parents naturalized before you were 18, your citizenship is automatic.  But you need proof.  In order to obtain your own naturalization certificate, form N-600 is necessary.

Another method of proving your citizenship is with a United States Passport.  Normally, a citizen would show their birth certificate or naturalization certificate as proof of their citizenship.  As a child who was automatically naturalized with his or her parents, however, you may not have the certificate yet.  As per the Department of State, here is the "secondary evidence" you can provide of your citizenship.

Good Luck, and welcome to the US!
